Where to stay in Rome

Rome is a big city, and you will have no problem in finding a place to stay, even close to the Olimpic Stadium and the Foro Italico.

But where to stay? What should you avoid or search when booking a room in the eternal City?

Just read my personal advice with tips, ideas and links for booking your overnight accommodation in Rome.

Firstly, if you are visiting the city of Rome for a football match, I suggest you to find a place near the Olimpic Stadium, so that you will save your precious time when reaching the Foro Italico. Flaminia House is at walking distance from the Olipic Stadium, but you can easly reach the Foro Italico from the center of Rome or from Prati area.

In case you desire to be close to the Center of Rome, I suggest you to look for a Bed and breakfast near the Vatican City. There are many B&B in the Vatican area and from there you will have the opportunity to stay close one of the most important touristic destination in Rome (San Peter Square) but still very close to the Olimpic Stadium.

The best place to stay near the Vatican is Via Cola di Rienzo, a large street full of shops. If you stay at the beginning or in the middle of Via Cola di Rienzo, you will find yourslef near the historical center of Rome, since Via Cola di Rienzo brings you directly to Piazza del Popolo, the entry door to the center of Rome, and still close to the Foro Italico. From Piazzale Flaminio, steps from the end of Via Cola di Rienzo, you will be to the Foro Italico in just a few minute, taking the small train (Line 2 Tram) that every 2 minutes brings you to the terminal station of Piazza Mancini. The terminal is just in front of the bridge that crosses the Tevere River and takes you to the Olimpic Stadium (Ponte Duca d'Aosta). You can even forget to ask for direction, since the final destination of the Line 2 Tram is where you will get off. Follow the crowd to the Olimpic Stadium for your peace of mind.

When looking for other B&B nearby, always consider to be close to any stop of the Metro station (Line A). Just avoid to stay too far from the Ottaviano stops, or you will find yourself stranded in the middle of nowhere (and it makes no sense when you want to visit such a beautiful city like Rome is) or anyway too far from the stadium.

If you want to stay within walking distance of the match, and breathing that football atmosphere, please consider to stay with us, or to any other accomodation nearby.

4 Steps To Find Your Best Accomodation in Rome

1 - Determine your PRACTICAL NEEDS

Why are you visiting Rome? Would you stay in a place in the middle of nowhere or be close to the places you are considering to visit? Imagine to book an affordable location, such as a B&B in the outskirts of Rome, and ending up to spend the most of your time in the subways or walking in a unpleasant environment. If you are visiting the historical center, be close to it. If you are visiting the outskirts, just forget about a room in or near the center of Rome. Does it make sense to you? And always consider to book a place near any Bus public transportation, especially if you need to haul lots of luggage.

2 - Determine your BUDGET and STICK TO IT

Remember the cost of the accomodation in Rome is just one of your holiday costs. Food, Entrance tickets to places of interests (and there are many in Rome) public transportation tips (if necessary) are just a few of the additional costs of your travelling to Italy.

3 - Determine your EMOTIONAL NEEDS, which accomodation really makes you happy when you arrive to Rome

Rome is such a beautiful City, but you will spend some time also in your accomodation, so why not stay in a conformtable and cosy room? On average, B&B are family run accomodations that can disappoint the travellers …so if you hate to be disappointed, look for a professionally run B&B or at least a place that looks like it. Rome is a nice city…so you better make sure you are really happy with your accomodation.

4 – Google Search, Google Maps, Tripadvisors and so on

Finding an accomodation in Rome should not just be a couple of hour task but should take place only after careful considerations and research. And after investing your time to do steps 1,2 and 3, and then coming up with your short list of potentials, DON"'T BLOW IT! Spend your next available time getting more information about each place.

4 Use the Tools Internet provides

Thank's to Google Visual, you now have at least a view of the street where you are going to book your room!
